Current Weather in Costa Rica

Costa Rica, for being such a small country has quite a dynamic climate. The lowland Guanacaste is quite arid while the central valley of San Jose has a great year round climate. The Caribbean coast has its own unique microclimate, affected by tropical tradewinds that maintain a hot and humid climate most of the year.

Summer and winter is quite different from what most people in the northern hemisphere are used to. Basically the difference being a "dry" season, and a "wet" season, respectively. While the average rainfall in the country is around 100 inches, some mountainous areas get as much as 25 feet of rainfall on a yearly basis. Rain lasts from May to November with the months of December through April having little to no rain and September and October being the heaviest rain period.
